Password for additional boss fight: prototype

Hello all! I've been on a dev hiatus for quite some time between job transitions, but I'm finally buckling down into some game dev!

This is my most recent of older projects that I want to get back into developing. I would love some feedback for what I have already :)!

  • music/sfx/graphics all fit together well
  • build up of mechanics ment nothing was confusing.
  • the avoid fire/get data was anoying for some reason, like it was to 'in my face'
  • the running sections for get data/avoid fire got a bit fast, the last one you basicaly had to move to the middle after each item went by, so you had time to get were you needed to go… after I figured that out it wasn't to bad. the words on fire/data weren't really readable, I would consider removing them and just using the icons.
  • the final boss, it wasn't clear that touching the boss would hurt initally
  • final boss, it wasn't clear that the words would stop acting as items you could stand up when the boss lifted off, perhapse greying them out when in the air or something would help.
  • the endless runner and the plaforming sections were about as much as I find reasonable.. much more and I think they would were out their welcome in their current forms… that said, they work fine for the length of the current game (I just wouldn't want to try to play hours of them.. but for the 10ish minutes of this game they play well and support the 'story')

Excellent little thing. I love that it is short (I hope you take that in a good way, because it is meant that way). I love the music.

I wasn't excited by the game play on the first level, and from that expected to be bored by the game. If it weren't for the fact I was playing for Feedback Fortnight, I probably wouldn't have gotten to the second level. However, the mix of levels did make it more fun, and now those levels now had an element of "what will I see next?" motivation to get past them.

I will second AdoitConceptions comment about the avoid fire/get data level going too fast. The second one was fast, and the last one I was amazed I passed it.

The graphics, theme, and music all blend together very well, and part of me wonders if you could weave a story in it all.

Excellent little game!

Haha this was excellent, after the surprise of the first desktop eating scene I couldn't wait to discover what the next two are. All in all if was a thoroughly exciting 5mn game! The cool pixel art, fast-paced action and changes of scenery made it fun from start to finish. I suggest you add a fixed-width font for the in-game text, to shake off the last bits of "unity's default settings" feel.

I have no idea how you could expand on that to make it a bigger game, but if you can manage to turn it into a 60mn experience, with a nice management of the rhythm and storytelling, it feels like the kind of thing you could slap a small price tag on. A bit like a Pony Island actually, except I'd prefer quirky humor and cute dinosaurs over the angry mess on drugs that Pony Island is :D
