Savannah Spell

A try to make an interesting idle game... A sorceress in the savannah, fighting totems with increasing spells

Changelog :
26/02/19 : corrected several bugs, especially the screen dimension to make the game at least playable…

05/03/19 : we have added a link to a corrected version, which is off ranking, so people who are kind enough to test and give feedback will have a real game to play.

--> Please don't rate the V2 link
https://1257thornothing.itch.io/savanah-spells-reloaded

Important :
The game doesn't work well, we could not finish and test it in time. It was meant to be a kind of clicker game, with several spells you can upgrade on strength and speed.
We have worked on a new better version (i.e. with less bugs…), but we wait for the end of the jam to publish it.

So… thanks for your comments, but don't try to hard to test the game, it will quickly break ;)

Unfortunely we were very short and could not finish the game as we imagined… It seems that's common in game jams ;)

We also have several known bugs we hope to correct quickly (after a little sleep)

  • Screen size

  • The flowers are nos well positioned

    • Hero cannot die

    • Only One spell actually works…

    • The lions sound like cockroach…

      I think we will try to actually finish the game after the jam voting period :)

I'm playing a couple times to try to get the gist of this game. First of all, awesome job coming this fair and publishing something playable!

I like how the audio is being done but after some few casts and mobs coming into the scenario, the channels get mixed too much and sounds weird.

Looking forward to see the improvements, mate.

congratuations on finishing a game.

ouchie…
I figured out how to get my level to slowly tick up and have get massive amounts of loud noises.
looks like thesunda had that same issue.

parts of the game was off the sides of the screen, perhapse the game was developed for a given aspect ratio, but was deployed with a different one.

I was able to get into a runaway loop, it felt like a clicker game at that point (I like clickers)

@all
Thank you for your comments :)

@thesunda and @AdroitConceptions
We indeed have some issue with the sound (amought other things !). We'll try to correct this issue today.
Same with the screen size.

@dgeisert
You got it !
Our goal on this jam was to create an idle game with some challenge : our main idea (not implemented :( ) is you have to make the best score in 2mn, 10mn, 1h… So you have to try to optimize power / speed cast in order to pass throught level as fast as possible.

We are working on a version, which will be published outside of the jam, of the game how we imagined it.

I managed to getI managed to get into a clicking loop! XD
Background music is great and so are the sound effects, except that after a while all of them overlaps each other.
The art style is really good and the gameplay felt like a clicker game, which is good.

I also managed to get it into a loop and got a really high score! XD

I like the idea of an idle clicker type game involving spellcasting though -- concepts like leveling up characters or spells and general RPG style progression systems seem like they could work well with that format if you wanted to take it further. The art style was really nice as well.

The art and audio in this one were very nice! It feels cohesive and very atmospheric.

I didn't really understand the gameplay, unfortunately. I clicked the two buttons above cast and cast and then the levels just counted up and crazy amounts of enemies appeared on screen and died immediately. I closed out after hitting level 100 because the sound effects were triggering repeatedly and I wasn't clicking anything anymore, and it had only been about a minute. Tried it again and the same thing happened, except the screen was zoomed in this time so I couldn't see the edges anymore, or my score. Did something just break on my end?

Played without audio, graphics are nice though and create a good cohesive setting. The edges of the game were clipped so I couldn't see the full UI. Wasn't sure what any of the buttons do, clicked around some and all the enemies started dying really fast and the level and score were ticking up really fast.

Yes, I'm sorry but the game doesn't work well, we could not finish and test it in time. It was meant to be a kind of clicker game, with several spells you can upgrade on strength and speed.

Thanks anyway for your testing and your comments.

@innomin Concerning you zoom problem, I have no idea what happened however…

I don't get what I'm supposed to do -- I can only click the leftmost CAST! button and then I guess I'm casting a spell. And then somehow it got into a sort of loop where I'm winning (?) about one level per second and more and more enemies keep spawning.

But! The sound and music are top notch for a game jam, and really give it that savannah vibe. The graphics and animations are really lovely too, though I would recommend to take another look at the colour scheme for the foreground characters.

It sure broke quickly!

The audio-visuals are very nice and the shaman on a savanna angle is rather fresh when compared to the usual high fantasy spellcasting.

Not going to rate a broken entry. I hope the post-jam version will spectacularly reveal the intent of the design.
